How it all started
Late 2017. Early GST days. I was sitting in my cousin's small wholesale electrical shop in Bengaluru. He sold on credit, relied on handwritten paper bills, and managed dues in notebooks. His auditor walked in to collect a stack of bills—again squinting at handwriting, chasing missing numbers, and begging him to “please get Tally and start making proper invoices.” For the auditor it was simple. For my cousin it was terrifying: he isn’t tech–savvy, has only basic accounting knowledge, very little counter space, and couldn’t justify hiring a full-time computer operator just to run heavy software.
I asked him: “Why not use a simple billing tool?” His reply: “Everything I see feels complicated. I can’t learn Tally.” So I went looking for something lightweight I could recommend. I couldn’t find a tool that was focused, fast, and friendly enough. Being a career software developer who has built and maintained enterprise banking systems, I told him: “Give me a week. I’ll build you something small—just invoices.” He agreed.
Version one was basic. He didn’t like the invoice layout. He showed me a supplier’s format; I adjusted it. The next week he was delighted—issuing clean, professional invoices from an old computer we revived. Neighbouring shops noticed. Word spread. More shop owners asked for “the same simple billing software.” People were ready to pay. Within months we crossed 100 users—purely through word of mouth.
That was the spark. We kept listening. Shop owners shared real problems: tracking payments, GST compliance, avoiding manual mistakes, saving time. Feature by feature, with a small focused team, we turned a utility into EzyBill—a modern, reliable platform now used by thousands of businesses across India: from Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
